Teacher

Venerable Bhante Sobhana was born in 1952. He is a monk of the forest tradition and has been a wandering ascetic for more than thirty years. He has profound experience in insight- (vipassana) as well as concentration practices (jhana) with objects ranging from anapana, kasinas to decaying corpses during a decade of mediation on cemeteries and cremation grounds.

Together with Godwin Samaratne he was a pioneer and supporter in the beginnings of the now popular Nilambe meditation center and a supporter of Ayya Khema in the development of the Parappuduwa nuns island.

Among his teachers have been venerable Nyanaponika Thera and  venerable Pemasiri of Sri Lanka as well as Ajahn Chah and Ajahn Asappa of Thailand.

His vipassana instructions trace back to Sayadaw U Pandita and have a rich set of unique approaches stemming from his own practice and that of his teachers.

Venerable Bhante Sobhana is fluent in Sinhala and English.
